Why practice Hatha Yoga?

Hatha Yoga unifies mind, body and spirit bringing you to new heights of physical and mental well being. Yoga postures affect every part of the body, stretching and toning muscles, joints, the spine, and the entire skeletal system. All the vital organs and glands benefit through these postures as it stimulates and massages them.

A hatha yoga posture is called an Asana meaning steady pose. Hatha yoga has a pattern of asanas that will maintain the proper curvature of the spine. Regular practice of the asanas can assist with improved health and aids the body to become disease free.

During practice your breathing is deepened and synchronized allowing you to relax into the poses and release tension. The asanas will not leave you feeling fatigued or over exerted after your workout. This is what makes Hatha Yoga distinctive from other forms of exercise.

Discover your body and respect its limits. Do not push yourself too hard in a pose. Yoga can only be effective if you practice it properly. The more tension you place on your body the more you expose yourself to injury. Do not put more stress to your already stressed out body.

Benefits of Breathing/Pranayama

Through breathing deeply you are delivering more oxygen into your system thereby giving your body the vital fuel it needs to nourish all your organs and keep you body strong and healthy.

Pranayama is a technique where it re-educates the breathing process, helps to release tension and develop a relaxed state of mind. It balances our nervous system, reduces the need for sleep and encourages creative thinking. Increasing oxygen to our brain improves mental clarity, alertness and physical well-being.

Full yogic breathing, Anuloma Viloma (Alternate Nostril Breathing) & Kapalabhati (shining skull) are the three main breathing exercises I teach.

Benefits of Meditation - Relaxation

Meditation is a technique which gives a unique quality of rest to mind and body. The mind becomes calm and steady allowing stress and tiredness to be released in a natural way, resulting in greater energy, clarity and enjoyment of life.

After meditating, you will feel more relaxed, calmer and have a greater sense of well-being. Through regular practice you will notice that your reaction to stressful events change and that you act with greater control and in more constructive ways.

Meditating for as little as fifteen or twenty minutes a day promotes improved mental and physical health and well-being.
